ICC T20 WORLD CUP - 2012 (Logo Packaging)

ICC - T20 World Cup 2012 | Client: International Cricket Council | Agency: WiteKite

CREDITS:
Director: Mike Williamson Producer: Hayley Ritz Houlton / Amelia Peacocke 2D Animator: Mike Williamson 3D Animator: Iain Greenhalgh Rotoscoping: Matt Regan / Tim Parsons

Designed by Australian creative firm Witekite, the logo incorporates and amalgamates the rounded look of the Sinhalese Script. The letter "T" forms a player which leads into the "2" while the "0" incorporates a cricket ball.

The colours of the logo, with strong reds and oranges, are seen in both nature and Sri Lankan culture and arts, with their presence in the logo giving them a cricket "spin". It has a natural sense of movement due to its fluid lines and forward angles.

Mr Lorgat said: "I am delighted to reveal this colourful logo that reflects the culture of Sri Lanka. The event now has a formal identity and we will use it to promote this exciting and entertaining event."

2012 ICC World Twenty20 - FORMAT

This is the FORMAT of the 2012 ICC World Twenty20:

The format is the same as the 2010 edition. The format will see four groups of three in a preliminary round. Apart from the ten test cricket playing nations, there will be a further two associate/affiliate teams who qualified from the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier staged in the United Arab Emirates on March 13–14, 2012.

The top two teams from each group will proceed to the Super Eight stage of the tournament. The Super Eight will consist of two groups. The top two teams from the two Super Eight groups would play the semi-finals, and the semi-final winners would contest the final to determine the world champions in Twenty20 cricket. England are the defending champions, having won the 2010 edition in the West Indies.

The Super Eight stage consists of the top two teams from each group of the group stage. The teams are split into two groups, Groups E and F. Group E will consist of the top seed from Groups A and C, and the second seed of groups B and D. Group F will consist of the top seed from Groups B and D, and the second seed of groups A and C. The seedings used are those allocated at the start of the tournament and are not affected by group stage results, with the exception of if a non-seeded team knocks out a seeded team, the non-seeded team inherits the seed of the knocked-out team.
During the group stage and Super Eight, points are awarded to the teams as follows:

ResultsPoints
Win2 points
No result1 point
Loss0 points
In case of a tie (i.e. both teams score exactly the same number of runs at the end of their respective innings), a Super Over decides the winner. This is applicable in all stages of the tournament.
Within each group (both group stage & Super Eight stage), teams are ranked against each other based on the following criteria:

1. Higher number of points
2. If equal, higher number of wins
3. If still equal, higher net run rate
4. If still equal, lower bowling strike rate
5. If still equal, result of head to head meeting.

T20 World Cup - Super 8 Predictions

The Super 8 predictions are not exactly difficult this year. The Super 8's are not being decided according to positions in the group stage but according to seedings.

Which means, the Super 8's have already been decide; barring an upset.

Super Eight (S8) Groups
Group 1 - A1, B2, C1, D2
Group 2 - A2, B1, C2, D1

According to the seeding received and the ones which can be seen at Cricinfo:

Group 1 will have:
England
West Indies
Sri Lanka
New Zealand

Group 2 will have:
India
Australia
South Africa
Pakistan

Group 1 obviously looks easier!

World Cup Twenty20 - Groups

The Groups for the World Cup Twenty20 2012 in Sri Lanka:

Group A:
England (A1)
India (A2)
Afghanistan (Q2)

Group B:
Australia (B1)
West Indies (B2)
Ireland (Q1)

Group C:
Sri Lanka (C1)
South Africa (C2)
Zimbabwe

Group D:
Pakistan (D1)
New Zealand (D2)
Bangladesh

If a team seeded third in the group qualifies for the Super Eight, it will adopt the code of the team they have replaced. For example, if Q2 qualifies at England's expense in second place in group A, it would be A1 and India still A2. No points are carried forward to the Super Eight stage, and the top two teams in each Super Eight group will qualify for the semi-finals.

Super Eight (S8) Groups
Group 1 - A1, B2, C1, D2
Group 2 - A2, B1, C2, D1
